Why is it that when everything seems to be going well that we tend to get cold and slowly drift away from God; but when everything goes wrong we get right in and serve the Lord and pray?
If this describes you, the bottom line is that this stems from a much bigger problem. Only praying and serving the Lord when you are in trouble is a sign that your will is not fully surrendered to the Lord. If we love God like we should, He will be first in our lives and we will serve Him rain or shine, day or night. When this level of love and true commitment to God is the case, he will be our all in all and no person or circumstance in life will ever come between the us and Him.
How can we change this?
Why, first and foremost truly fall in love with Jesus. Let Him be first in your life. Make a point to faithfully attend every service. Worship when you go; get your mind on Him. Begin a consistent prayer life, “praying through” every chance you get. Make paying your tithes the very first thing you do with every paycheck. Be a witness every opportunity you get. Ask God to give you a love for holiness, both inside and outside. Start a consisted daily reading of the Word. Set aside periodic times for fasting and prayer. Listen when the Word of God is preached; it truly is God’s message to you. Attend every Bible study. Get involved in every activity of the church you can.
It does not hurt to allow your pastor and fellow saints help you in your new walk with God. Of course they can’t do it for you-you must be determined. Do not wait for something bad to happen before you seek God. Start now, and be persistent.
Do not allow for your christian life to be a shallow rollercoaster ride. Let the world see what it means to live a truly happy, devoted life, wholly dedicated to God. Put I Peter 3:12 into practice. It will work and then you will know what it means to have a consistent walk with God.
